We recently completed a new home in Riverwood Golf Club. I had a chance to sit down with the new homeowners to ask them a few questions.
What made you choose the Hagen floor plan?
We had some pretty specific needs in terms of a floor plan. I often work from home and my wife homeschools our two kids. We are also expecting our 3rd child. That meant needing lots of individual rooms but we still wanted the house to feel open. When we saw the Hagen floor plan we immediately fell in love with it. It was the perfect balance of an open floor plan with enough rooms to accommodate our needs.
You originally wanted to build in Riverwood Athletic Club. What made you choose Riverwood Golf Club instead?
Both are great neighborhoods so it was a difficult decision. We liked Riverwood Athletic Club because of all the on site amenities. However, we were really attracted to the larger lots in Riverwood Golf Club.
How was the building process?
Surprisingly, very easy. Our home sold quicker than expected so we ended up renting in Riverwood Athletic Club while our home was being built. We enjoyed being able to walk to the pool and ice cream shop. Since the rental was only a few minutes away from the Golf Club, we would often go by and check on the progress of the house. Zach, with Fred Smith Company, was great to work with. We had a couple of unique upgrades but it didn’t phase him a bit.
Can you go into more detail about those unique upgrades?
We designed custom built-ins for the homeschool room and bonus room. I’m a bit of a geek so we added a motorized screen and projector in the bonus room and ran lots of custom wiring for networking, audio and security.
What’s your favorite feature of the house?
There are so many to choose from it’s hard to pick just one! I would say my top two favorites are the theater room and the hidden reading nook in my daughter’s room. Instead of having a storage area under the stairs, we turned it into a finished secret hideout for her. She loves it!
What advice would you have for someone building a home?
Call Fred Smith Company! 🙂 But seriously, I would say find the right floor plan and community – And leave enough room in your budget for a few splurges. Those simple little extras can really turn a house into a home that reflects your unique style.
