For much of the week leading up to the Super Bowl, Eagle Ridge was a winter wonderland filled with kids enjoying their snow days by sledding and building snowmen.
Thankfully, Saturday brought warm temperatures and enough rain to melt the snow away just in time for the first golf tournament of the new year.
Perfect Weather for Golf
Sixty golfers joined together Sunday morning for an early start to their annual super bowl festivities at Eagle Ridge Golf Club. Prior to tee-off, players tailgated in the parking lot and enjoyed a pig pickin’ in preparation for the first golf tournament of the year.
The weather could not have been better for golf and the sun and warm temperatures continued to dry the course throughout the day. In fact, the improving course conditions led to some impressive play by all teams.
Winners of the Super Bowl Scramble
There was one team however that played extremely well. The winning team, which was comprised of Jenny Martin, Donna Crowder, Trip Barclift and Jimmy Cornell, finished three strokes ahead of their nearest competitor with a score of 57.
Two teams finished with scores of 60 which required a scorecard playoff to determine the second and third place teams. Bruce Bright, Tami Bright, Sammy Kocurek and Chris Buffaloe won the tie breaker with a score of 30 on the back nine.
Rounding out the top three was Jay Floyd, Scott Redden, Ed Lower and our very own short game wizard Scott Hammond.
More 2014 Golf Tournaments
The Super Bowl Scramble was the first of many new tournaments that have been added for 2014 and everyone involved had a great time.
The tournament on the calendar will be the Luck of the Irish tournament at Hedingham on Saturday, March 15. It will be an individual stroke play event with a twist: there will be no flag sticks on the greens. You may sign up for the tournament by calling the Hedingham Golf Shop at 919-250-3030.
